The Human Race Machine

Here's another fun family activity idea...FREE & educational too!

"The Dixie Forum, the Diversity Center and Student Government are pleased to bring the Human Race Machine to campus from February 9 - 13. The photo booth-like machine alters digital photos of participants to what they could look like as six different races! We hope all of you will take advantage of this unique experience and that it sparks reflection and dialogue in your departments and in the community. The Human Race Machine will be housed in the Gardner Center (first floor) during the week and PBS specials will be shown in conjunction with the photo experience at the following times and locations:

Wednesday, February 11
Topic: The Biology of Race
Noon and 7pm, Gardner Center Cottam Room

Thursday, February 12
Topic: The Historical Construction of Race
Noon, Udvar Hazy 224
7pm, Udvar Hazy 121

Friday, February 13
Topic: Societal Consequences of Race
Noon and 7pm, Gardner Center Cottam Room"

I'm pretty sure you could stop by the Gardner Center anytime it is open (8am-10pm) to use the machine! I know my kids would find this amazing and fascinating! We'll check it out for sure!

Dino Days in Dixie

Hey Gals! Thought I'd let you know about Dino Days, Feb 2-7, at the Johnson Dinosaur Farm.

They are having activities all week, including FREE admission to the museum on Thursday. I wanted to put a link to more information but I couldn't find anything helpful. The official website is http://www.dinotrax.com/ and you can check for updates.

I saw the schedule of events on a flyer at school today. I know they are having a new exhibit with a ribbon cutting tonight, and a day at the bookstore with poetry/book readings later in the week.
Update--Here is the flyer:

Girls Night Out

Hey Girls!

I am planning a girls night out for Tuesday the 20th to see the late movie of Wedding Wars at Pineview Stadium. Also, if anyone can get away earlier, we will go to Bajio for a later dinner before the movie. Sooooooo, the movie starts at 8:05 or 10:05, I was thinking we could see the 10:05 and meet at Bajio for dinner at 8:45. (Just eat a little snack at home to tide you over!!!) What do you think? I can come and pick up anyone that needs a ride or just wants to ride with other girlies. I facebooked a few people too, but if you want to invite anyone that I haven't, PLEASE DO SO! I don't want anyone to feel left out just because I don't have their e-mail addresses. I will post in on the mom's blog at http://momsbrainstorm.blogspot.com too.

Let me know if your in!

January Book Club Theme

Since it's the NEW YEAR, we thought it might be a good time to read some self-improvement or self-help books! Bring your favorite to share at our next Book Club meeting. We will post more info on the date and time when it has been decided!

Let us know, too, if you would be interested in seeing Nights in Rodanthe at the $2 Theater. It's based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. We could see it and then read the book for February. Or if you have any other literary movie suggestions...post them and we'll vote!
